This is Dandy, the dumped dog on Old Hwy. 50 that we couldn't catch, then were called to pick up hit and badly injured on the highway. We took her to Flora Vet Clinic on a Sunday afternoon as an emergency, because her hip was dislocated. 

Cost to put her hip back in the socket:  $170

Her hip did not stay in, so we were forced with the decision to amputate her leg or euthanize her.

Having already spent $170 to put her hip back in and sent her into foster, we were committed to her.

We decided to pay to get her leg removed and save her life.  That cost $405 for surgery, meds and xrays.

$575 is a lot to spend on a dog someone discarded, but she is a sweet dog,and this was a case where we didn't have the heart to declare her life wasn't worth  it.

Dandy's medical expenses were sponsored, and her adoption fee is only $50.

Dandy doesn't like to be alone, but she doesn't like all dogs.  Potential adopters with dogs need to bring their dog to see if they get along.

Dandy does NOT like cats, so is not suitable for a home with cats.

The typical adoption fee for dogs is $150.  It includes vaccination, deworming , spay/neuter, heartworm testing on dogs of age and microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law.  Some dogs we discount to as little as $50 due to sponsorship.  Some dogs we ask a higher adoption fee, which helps us recoup expenses on heartworm treatment on other dogs.

All cats are spayed/neutered/vaccinated/flea treated/dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption.  Cat adoption fees range from $60-$100.  We spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm all kittens and cats, prior to adoption.  Our shyer/less adoptable cats are classed as "barn cats" and are free with a completed/approved barn cat application, which can be found on our website.
