Clay County Animal Rescue & ShelterAmerican Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) : : Male (not neutered) : : Adult : : Large
This dog breaks my heart. He was dealt a bad hand with an abusive owner. He is only about 1.5 years old, but he needs to be worked with. The second time we were called out to pick him up, the allegation was that his owner had him down be
ating on him with his fist, like in a barroom brawl, except that he was the only one hitting. Homer was howling and didn't fight back. Home was so happy to see us that day, because he recognized us from when we'd picked him up before. We didn't beat on him. We carried treats. He loaded right up in the animal control truck and we took him back to the shelter. However, a shelter is not a good place for many dogs. The excitement level is too high and Homer has started behaving badly, barking aggressively when we have visitors. We try to correct it. We also reward good behavior. He will sit when told and he gets a treat. He will also lie down. Due to Homer's size and breed, he is a special case. I want Homer to have a happy ending, because I think his early life was totally unfair. But, first I think he needs to be worked with. I haven't given up on a happy ending for Homer, but we're going to need some help to make it happen. Here's hoping. Homer is HW negative, vaccinated and dewormed. If you know of a pitbull rescue, please advise us or share this listing. More about HomerEager To Please Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter is located at 375 Water Elm Lane, Flora, IL.
